TL;DR
Integrated System Planning Engineering Intern TX (Electrical Engineering/Power Systems): Supporting transmission and substation project scoping, engineering analysis, and documentation for electric utility system planning with an accent on reliability, capacity, and long-term system performance. Focus on analyzing planning data, reviewing engineering studies, developing project estimates, and coordinating project activities with planners, engineers, and project managers.

Location: Amarillo, Texas, United States; hybrid work with in-person commuting required

Salary: $23.10–$24.60 per hour

What you will do

  • Support transmission and substation project scoping, development, and documentation for the Integrated System Planning team.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze planning, operational, and engineering data for system studies and project evaluations.
  • Review transmission and substation planning studies, project estimates, and engineering reports.
  • Coordinate with transmission planners, substation engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to track project development.
  • Prepare technical documentation, presentations, and project status updates.
  • Contribute to projects supporting electric system reliability and safe delivery of electricity.

Requirements

  • Current junior-level or higher student enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a power systems focus, or Computer Science.
  • Must be able to commute to the designated work location in person under the hybrid work policy.
  • Must be available to work full-time during the summer, up to 40 hours per week, and part-time during the school year, up to 20 hours per week.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.

Nice to have

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Understanding of electrical power systems, transmission lines, substations, or utility operations.
  • Coursework in power systems, electrical machines, or power system analysis.
  • Familiarity with engineering software, data analysis tools, or GIS applications.
  • Previous electrical engineering, utility, internship, co-op, research, or project experience.
