TL;DR
Software Engineer - Clients and Drivers (Java/C++/Apache Arrow): Building core client and driver experiences for a SQL lakehouse platform with an accent on scalable distributed systems, open-source development, and reliable data access. Focus on designing asynchronous and multithreaded systems, developing microservices, contributing to Apache Arrow, and supporting zero-downtime upgrades.
Location: Remote in Portugal

provides a SQL lakehouse platform for self-service analytics and AI, based on open-source technologies including Apache Iceberg and Apache Arrow.
What you will do
- Contribute to the full software development cycle, from design and development through testing and deployment.
- Build core client and driver experiences across the technology stack.
- Work with open-source software and contribute to Apache Arrow projects.
- Participate in code and design reviews to maintain software quality and deepen understanding of system architecture.
- Collaborate with program managers, support, architects, customers, and BI tool partners such as Tableau and Power BI.
- Participate in recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineering best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related technical field.
- Fluency in Java, C++, or another modern programming language.
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, multithreaded and asynchronous programming patterns.
- Experience developing scalable distributed systems and deploying, scaling, and managing microservices.
- Understanding of quality, availability, resiliency, uptime, and zero-downtime upgrades.
- Must be based in Portugal for the remote role.
Nice to have
- Experience with JDBC, ODBC, ADBC, or other database driver and protocol technologies.
- Apache Arrow experience and contributions to open-source projects.
- Working knowledge of SQL and experience with databases, distributed systems, and highly available services.
- Experience developing client-side libraries or applications.
