Senior Full Stack Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, South Africa — Gauteng

Building digital infrastructure for grant funding through a SaaS platform that combines funding research, AI-supported analysis and application drafting, expert review, and grant management.

What you will do

• Build and ship end-to-end product features across the frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI pipeline.
• Work directly with the grant team to identify user problems and take solutions from discovery through production deployment.
• Develop usability-focused interfaces that help grant writers create and submit applications more efficiently.
• Build and operate production AI pipelines using prompt engineering, context management, model selection, cost control, and multi-provider setups.
• Develop AI evaluation practices, including prompt quality assessment and regression detection, as well as AI agents and tool-calling workflows.
• Operate and improve AWS-based production infrastructure, monitoring reliability, performance, and live-system issues.

Requirements

• Several years of professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Strong Postgres expertise, including JSONB, query performance, and migrations.
• Experience with Next.js, React Query, Express, BullMQ, AWS ECS, AWS RDS, and Terraform.
• Hands-on experience building and operating AI/LLM-powered applications and pipelines in production.
• Strong debugging skills, autonomy, ownership, and the ability to shape solutions in an undefined environment.
• German language skills at B1 level or above are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI agents and tool-calling workflows in production.
• Familiarity with AI-native development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
