TL;DR
Scientist II In Vivo (Biotechnology): Designing, executing, and evaluating in vivo studies for target identification, validation, and drug discovery with an accent on mouse model characterization, efficacy studies, and PK/PD analysis. Focus on complex dosing routes, colony management, tissue processing, regulatory documentation, and collaboration with CROs and academic partners.

Location: Cambridge, UK, at the Babraham Research Campus. Hybrid-friendly work with purposeful in-person collaboration.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and evaluate in vivo studies conducted internally and through CROs.
  • Plan and execute mouse model characterization, efficacy studies, and small-scale PK/PD studies.
  • Analyze endpoint data using behavioral and image-based methods and prepare study reports, summaries, and regulatory documents.
  • Develop project plans with program leads and senior leadership and coordinate work with vivarium staff, CROs, and academic partners.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on study design, data analysis, animal models, methods, and suitable execution locations.
  • Lead workflow improvements, implement technology solutions, and mentor colleagues in a matrix-based team.

Requirements

  • Current UK Home Office Licence with hands-on in vivo experience is required. Candidates without a current licence or a dormant licence that can be reactivated cannot be employed.
  • 4–5 years of relevant experience working with in vivo models and internal or external partners.
  • Experience managing colonies, expanding imported or newly generated models, and generating experimental cohorts.
  • Experience planning and executing efficacy studies, including complex dosing routes such as IT, ICV, and ICM and cannulation for repeat mouse dosing.
  • Experience with mouse model characterization, behavioral phenotyping, image-based analysis, tissue collection, and sample processing.
  • Strong analytical, statistical, reporting, and regulatory documentation skills, with a bachelor's degree expected.

Nice to have

  • Experience in neurodegenerative, neuroinflammatory, or cardiovascular disease.
  • Understanding of genome engineering and transgenic technologies for generating animal models.
  • Expertise in CNS tissue collection and processing, including fixation and embedding for histology.
