Optical Lab Technician

Location: Full-time onsite position in San Mateo, California, USA

What you will do

• Build, assemble, and align optical components and modules.
• Conduct optical experiments and tests, including microscopy imaging and analysis.
• Operate motorized precision motion-control stages for automation and data collection.
• Handle microscopy slides and samples, and maintain and calibrate optical and mechanical equipment.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and collaborate with scientists and engineers on optical technology development.
• Document experimental procedures and results.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in physics, optics, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience working in an optical laboratory in an educational or industry setting.
• Hands-on experience with optical assembly and alignment.
• Fundamental understanding of optical and mechanical principles, plus experience with microscopy imaging and analysis.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, teamwork, flexibility, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Programming skills in Python or MATLAB.
