TL;DR
Tech Lead Optical Test Engineer (Silicon Photonics): Developing and deploying optical test architectures for silicon photonics devices, CPO components, assemblies, and optical modules with an accent on high-speed optical measurements, wafer-level testing, and production-scale automation. Focus on designing optical test stations, building Python/LabVIEW/MATLAB automation, analyzing yield-limiting failures, and validating performance across high-speed optical links.

Location: San Jose, California, United States

Salary: $185,000–$240,000 per year, depending on experience, level, and business need. Discretionary bonus, incentives, and benefits may be available.

Company

hirify.global provides rack-scale AI infrastructure through connectivity solutions based on CXL, Ethernet, NVLink, PCIe, UALink, and its COSMOS software suite.

What you will do

  • Define and implement optical test architectures and flows for wafer probe, package-level characterization, and optical module validation.
  • Execute characterization and qualification testing for co-packaged optics components and assemblies.
  • Perform high-speed optical measurements including insertion loss, return loss, extinction ratio, eye diagrams, BER, and OMA.
  • Design and build test stations using fiber alignment systems, optical switches, tunable lasers, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and BER testers.
  • Develop automated test software, scripts, and frameworks for wafer-scale and production-level testing.
  • Analyze large-scale test data, generate Cpk, GR&R, and SPC reports, support design reviews, and coordinate with engineering teams, suppliers, and foundries.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or a related field.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in optical testing, photonic device characterization, or optical transceiver development.
  • Strong knowledge of silicon photonics devices, including modulators, photodetectors, multiplexers, grating couplers, and edge couplers.
  • Hands-on experience with OSA, OMA, tunable lasers, polarization controllers, power meters, high-speed oscilloscopes, BERTs, and pattern generators.
  • Experience testing 100G/lane and higher optical links using PAM4 and NRZ, plus knowledge of IEEE 802.3, OIF-CEI, and CMIS standards.
  • Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or C/C++ and familiarity with statistical analysis and data visualization.

Nice to have

  • Experience with co-packaged optics or on-board optics architectures.
  • Experience with wafer-level optical probing, automated photonics test platforms, and photonics test hardware and software.
  • Experience transitioning test processes from laboratory or prototype environments to high-volume manufacturing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work within a broader test organization and collaborate across design, process engineering, supplier, and foundry teams.
  • Contribute to an environment that values creativity, innovation, and diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Potential eligibility for discretionary bonus, incentives, and benefits.
