Senior Director - Intellectual Property

Location: Hybrid role based in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA

Salary: $200,000–$220,000 per year

What you will do

• Manage a global portfolio of more than 700 patent assets and 1,500 trademark assets, including filing, prosecution, optimization, protection, and enforcement.
• Lead trademark and brand protection activities, including clearance, registration, maintenance, due diligence, and online enforcement.
• Develop trade secret and confidential information protection programs in partnership with HR, R&D, Compliance, and Legal.
• Lead IP due diligence and counseling for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, partnerships, and technology transactions.
• Negotiate and advise on technology licenses, joint development agreements, research collaborations, material transfer agreements, and confidentiality agreements.
• Assist the Chief IP Counsel with department leadership, workflows, metrics, budgets, operational initiatives, and team development.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar and registration to practice before the USPTO.
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
• 10–15 years of intellectual property experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or combination of both.
• Experience managing patent portfolios, providing strategic IP counseling, and supporting business, technology, and innovation organizations.
• Strong writing, communication, stakeholder management, people management, and project management skills.

Nice to have

• In-house intellectual property experience.
• Experience in chemicals, adhesives, materials science, construction products, health and hygiene, or medical technology.
• Experience with trademark enforcement, trade secret programs, IP due diligence, technology licensing, and IP disputes.
• Ability to advise senior business leaders and influence strategic decisions.
