TL;DR
Environmental Co Op/Intern (Environmental Engineering): Supporting environmental surveys, audits, sampling, documentation, and engineering projects involving wastewater treatment, landfill operations, residuals management, and regulatory compliance with an accent on environmental monitoring and compliant mill operations. Focus on analyzing wastewater and stormwater samples, maintaining laboratory equipment and SOPs, and traveling between mill and box plant locations.

Location: Gladstone, Virginia; based at one of PCA’s mill locations with a 75% travel expectation. Applicants must be permanent U.S. residents.

Salary: $25–$30 per hour, depending on year in school.

What you will do

  • Visit mill and box plant locations to support environmental surveys and audits.
  • Collect, analyze, and manage wastewater, stormwater, and other environmental samples.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and update or create standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain and improve environmental records and documentation systems.
  • Participate in projects involving wastewater treatment, landfill operations, residuals management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with corporate and site environmental staff to support safe and compliant operations.

Requirements

  • Permanent U.S. residency and a valid driver’s license are required.
  • Majoring in Chemical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Must have completed or be scheduled to complete the freshman year before the co-op or internship.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Ability to travel approximately 75% and work at one of PCA’s mill locations.

  • Membership in the Paper Foundation at a listed university.
  • Enrollment at a state or technological university in one of PCA’s preferred states.
  • Participation in career fairs or on-campus interview days.
