Summer 2027 Internship - Civil Engineering (Environmental)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Salary: $30–$40 per hour, depending on academic standing. Monthly housing stipend and overtime eligibility are also provided.

What you will do

• Assist with the design and evaluation of stormwater systems, secondary containment, wastewater treatment facilities, and foundations for nuclear-related infrastructure.
• Support compliance with NRC, EPA, DOE, and state environmental regulations.
• Contribute to assessments of soil stability, groundwater protection, flood mitigation, seismic resilience, and natural hazards.
• Help design and optimize waste handling, storage, hydrology, and runoff-control systems.
• Support structural analyses for aging infrastructure, accidental loads, and facility safety.
• Collaborate with nuclear, mechanical, and environmental engineers, health physicists, regulatory specialists, and project coordinators.

Requirements

• Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related degree.
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and industrial facility construction standards.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, or civil engineering design software such as Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, or HY-8.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.

Nice to have

• Coursework or project experience in stormwater management, hydrology, or geotechnical analysis.
• Interest in nuclear fuel cycles, radioactive waste management, or radiological environmental assessments.
• Exposure to seismic and flood hazard assessments.
• Prior technical projects, portfolio work, or experience in a fast-paced engineering environment.
