Senior Electrical Engineer II (Aerospace): Developing and testing avionics hardware for electro-optical systems across the full lifecycle, with an accent on FPGA, microcontroller, analog, and payload-level electronics design. Focus on defining architectures for space missions, executing environmental qualification and verification testing, and leading failure analysis, manufacturing support, and technical mentorship.

Location: Tucson, Arizona, United States; onsite at the hirify.global Optical Systems site

Company

hirify.global is an end-to-end space company developing rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for commercial, civil, and national security missions.

What you will do

  • Own the complete lifecycle of avionics hardware for command and control of electro-optical systems.
  • Lead architecture decisions for EO sensors supporting LEO, GEO, and cislunar missions.
  • Design and integrate electronics including FPGAs, microcontrollers, low-noise ADC/DAC systems, and VPX systems at CCA and module level.
  • Develop payload designs integrating motor controllers, processing units, imagers, and cryptographic devices.
  • Perform schematic capture and PCBA layout using Altium Designer, and plan design verification and system integration testing.
  • Lead environmental qualification, failure analysis, production support, design reviews, supplier collaboration, and technical mentorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of electrical hardware design experience and the ability to develop blank-sheet design concepts.
  • Experience with PCBA design using FPGAs.
  • Knowledge of processors, FPGAs, switch-mode power supplies, communication interfaces, and analog instrumentation.
  • Strong analog electronics design background and proficiency with SPICE and Excel for circuit analysis.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements; work on U.S. office programs is subject to ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • Experience with electronic laboratory equipment, space-environment electronics, radiation mitigation, and high-reliability aerospace design.
  • Experience with TVAC, shock, vibration, EMI/EMC testing, PCBA verification, and validation.
  • Experience with rigid-flex PCBs, electromechanical design, FPGA development, or embedded software for ARM processors.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on real spacecraft, payloads, and avionics hardware for ambitious space missions.
  • Collaborate across electrical, systems, mechanical, thermal, optical, and software engineering disciplines.
  • Operate in a fast-paced environment focused on innovation, teamwork, tight deadlines, and delivery.
  • Support meaningful missions for NASA, defense, national security, and other space customers.
