TL;DR
Sanctions Compliance Lead (AI and Trade Controls): Leading an end-to-end sanctions compliance program for globally accessible AI products and channels with an accent on risk governance, restricted-party screening, regulator-facing matters, and export controls oversight. Focus on designing durable compliance controls, resolving complex sanctions escalations, advising product and commercial teams on geographic expansion, and reporting program health to senior leadership and the Audit Committee.

Location: Hybrid role based in the United States, with work from the Washington, DC, San Francisco, or New York City office at least 3 days a week.

Annual salary: $270,000–$345,000 USD.

What you will do

  • Lead the sanctions compliance program, including strategy, risk appetite, policy frameworks, roadmap, and ongoing enhancements.
  • Assess sanctions risks across products, channels, markets, partnerships, and geographic expansion, and drive remediation through closure.
  • Direct regulator-facing matters, including voluntary self-disclosures, blocking and reject reports, licensing questions, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Govern restricted-party screening and enforcement controls, including list configuration, thresholds, escalation criteria, vendor management, and exceptions.
  • Advise product, engineering, operations, finance, and commercial teams on sanctions and trade controls requirements.
  • Lead and develop compliance professionals while reporting program health, risks, and emerging issues to leadership and the Audit Committee.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience leading an economic sanctions compliance program covering OFAC, EU, UK, and other applicable regimes.
  • Experience managing voluntary self-disclosures, blocking or reject reports, regulator filings, remediation, and program enhancements.
  • Experience governing restricted-party screening programs and managing screening vendors.
  • Working knowledge of US export controls, including EAR and BIS rules.
  • Experience partnering with legal counsel and translating trade controls requirements into practical guidance.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or relevant experience.

Nice to have

  • 10+ years of relevant economic sanctions compliance experience, including several years leading a program or team.
  • Experience managing compliance professionals and conducting sanctions diligence for acquisitions, vendors, and third parties.
  • Experience in software, cloud, fintech, AI, a hyper-scaling technology company, Big 4, compliance consulting, OFAC, or another trade regulator.
  • Experience partnering with trust and safety, enforcement, or threat intelligence teams.
