Sanctions Compliance Lead (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in the United States, with work from the San Francisco, New York City, or Washington, DC office required at least 3 days per week. Anthropic currently expects all staff to be in an office at least 25% of the time.

Annual salary: $270,000–$345,000 USD

What you will do

• Lead the sanctions compliance program, including strategy, risk appetite, policies, roadmap, and ongoing program enhancements.
• Assess sanctions risk across AI products, APIs, channels, markets, partnerships, and geographic expansion, and drive remediation through closure.
• Govern restricted-party screening and enforcement controls, including lists, thresholds, escalations, vendors, and exceptions.
• Direct regulator-facing matters such as voluntary self-disclosures, blocking and reject reports, licensing questions, and regulatory inquiries.
• Advise product, engineering, operations, finance, and commercial teams on sanctions and export-controls requirements.
• Lead, mentor, and develop compliance professionals while reporting program health and emerging risks to senior leadership and the Audit Committee.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience leading an economic sanctions compliance program covering OFAC, EU, UK, and other applicable regimes.
• Experience managing regulator filings, voluntary self-disclosures, blocking or reject reports, remediation, and program enhancements.
• Experience governing restricted-party screening programs and managing screening vendors.
• Working knowledge of US export controls, including EAR and BIS rules.
• Experience advising business and product teams and partnering with in-house or outside counsel on trade-controls requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and professional experience; strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of relevant sanctions compliance experience, including several years leading a program or team.
• Experience with sanctions diligence for acquisitions, vendors, and third parties, including state-ownership and 50 percent rule analysis.
• Experience in software, cloud, fintech, AI, a hyper-scaling technology company, Big 4 consulting, OFAC, or another trade regulator.
• Experience partnering with trust and safety, enforcement, or threat intelligence teams.
