What you will do
- Set up, operate, and monitor automated composite and precision winding equipment according to engineering specifications and work instructions.
- Cut, measure, prepare, and handle carbon fiber tow, prepreg, and fabric while minimizing waste and material degradation.
- Load and align mandrels, manage resin bath and wet-out systems, and verify winding patterns, tension settings, and ply schedules.
- Perform in-process inspections for fiber placement, tension consistency, void indicators, and dimensional conformance.
- Operate curing equipment, monitor cure cycles, and perform basic preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Maintain production records, traveler documentation, material traceability, and reports on process or equipment deviations.
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in composite manufacturing, including precision winding, fiber placement, cutting, or layup.
- Working knowledge of carbon fiber materials and appropriate handling and storage practices.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, work instructions, and process travelers.
- Familiarity with calipers, micrometers, tension gauges, and other precision measurement tools.
- Understanding of resin systems, cure cycle fundamentals, dimensional tolerances, and process discipline.
- Ability to work required shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed, including standing, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
Nice to have
- Experience operating CNC-controlled composite equipment.
- Background in aerospace, defense, energy, or other regulated and high-reliability manufacturing environments.
- Experience with pressure vessel winding, structural composite components, bonding, adhesive application, or composite repair.
- Vocational or technical certification in composites manufacturing or materials science.
- Experience with MES or QMS systems for production and quality records.
