TL;DR
Power Electronics Intern (Aerospace): Developing and testing spacecraft power converters and related hardware with an accent on high-reliability space applications, control systems, and board-level design. Focus on SPICE simulation, controller design and tuning, Altium layouts, and EMI/EMC verification.

Location: Los Angeles, United States; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office

Compensation: $45 per hour

What you will do

  • Design, build, and test isolated and non-isolated power converters for high-reliability spacecraft applications.
  • Contribute to motor controller development where applicable.
  • Simulate power stages in SPICE and model plants for selected converter topologies and control techniques.
  • Capture schematics, select components, and design auxiliary converter features.
  • Create optimized PCB layouts in Altium and perform board-level bench testing with power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, and Bode100 equipment.
  • Conduct specialized converter testing, EMI/EMC verification, control-loop verification, and analog or digital control-loop tuning.

Requirements

  • Expected graduation in Fall 2027 or Spring 2028.
  • Pursuing a BS or MS in Power Electronics, Embedded Systems, or Control; MS graduates are preferred.
  • Proficiency with LTspice, Altium, MathWorks tools, and C2000 microcontrollers.
  • Relevant coursework includes power electronics, linear or continuous control, and motor drives.
  • Spring interns must be available to pause or adjust academic commitments for the program.
