Senior Data Engineer (Fintech)

Location: London, UK; hybrid working with at least two days per week or 40% of working time at an office site

Salary: £76,760–£95,950 per year

What you will do

• Design, build and operate scalable real-time and batch data infrastructure.
• Collect, process and serve data from internal and external sources.
• Maintain the reliability, performance and availability of data warehouses and pipelines.
• Enable analytics, machine learning, real-time decisioning and operational reporting.
• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, machine learning researchers and business stakeholders.
• Promote best practices in data engineering, architecture and data quality.

Requirements

• At least five years of production experience as a Data Engineer working with real-time and batch data.
• Strong experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka, Pub/Sub or Kinesis.
• Knowledge of data warehousing, relational modelling, query optimisation and database administration.
• Strong programming experience with Python, Go and/or SQL, plus experience with dbt and Apache Airflow or similar tools.
• Experience designing and building production systems on GCP and/or AWS, with knowledge of event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
• Experience supporting machine learning workloads, distributed processing technologies such as Spark or Apache Beam, and production data systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes and containerised environments.
• Experience working with LLMs and agentic workflows.
• Experience mentoring engineers and designing large-scale distributed architectures.
• Knowledge of security considerations in data engineering.
• Experience in fintech, financial services, payments or retail banking.
