TL;DR
Centre for Innovation Compliance Officer (Export Controls): Developing and managing compliance assurance systems for advanced materials research across UK and US export control regulations with an accent on export classification, licensing, and regulatory record-keeping. Focus on denied party and visitor screening, compliance audits, and advising on import regulations, dangerous goods, and subsidy control requirements.

Location: Hybrid work at the hirify.global's Oxford Road campus, with at least 1 day per week in the Compliance & Risk Office and 1 day per week in the Royce Hub.

The hirify.global is an education and research institution supporting the Henry Royce Institute and the Tata Steel Limited/Royce Centre for Innovation in Advanced Materials.

What you will do

  • Develop and manage assurance systems for compliance with UK and US export control regulations, including the UK Export Control Order, US EAR, and ITAR.
  • Advise on export controls, classification of goods and technology, and licensing requirements.
  • Support UK and US export licence applications and maintain records of licences, authorisations, and control plans.
  • Conduct Denied Party Screening and visitor screening, and support compliance audits.
  • Provide guidance on import regulations, dangerous goods, and subsidy control requirements.

Requirements

  • Degree or substantial professional experience in a university or comparable environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound, proportionate decisions.
  • Experience with complex regulatory or compliance-related processes.

Nice to have

  • Experience or qualifications in export compliance or trade compliance.
  • Degree in chemistry, engineering, or another physical or life science discipline.
  • Knowledge of the academic research environment and regulated research activities.
  • Willingness to undertake DGSA, IATA, or other relevant professional training.
