Senior Backend Engineer (Kotlin)

Location: Prague or Brno, Czech Republic; remote, hybrid, or onsite work available

What you will do

• Build a fast, distributed query engine using Kotlin and Apache Calcite.
• Develop algorithms for parsing and transpiling MAQL into SQL based on semantic data models.
• Design internal and external APIs and write high-quality, test-driven code.
• Develop modular microservices for data orchestration, integration, and processing.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, and Architecture partners to shape product direction and technical solutions.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience delivering backend features.
• Strong computer science background and experience with object-oriented programming.
• Interest in clean software architecture and solving complex algorithmic problems.
• Good spoken and written English proficiency.
• Strong ownership, initiative, technical excellence, and openness to constructive feedback.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of open-source data technologies.
• Experience with database engines and big data.
• Knowledge of semantic data modelling.
