VP of Engineering (SaaS)

Location: Based in the Netherlands or a South East Asia location, supporting globally distributed teams.

What you will do

• Lead the Product Engineering organisation, including 3–4 Engineering Managers and approximately 15–20 engineers.
• Set technical strategy and architectural direction for scalable distributed systems, microservices, APIs, and event-driven services.
• Guide AWS cloud-native platform development, including containerization, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and modern deployment practices.
• Own delivery across business-as-usual engineering work and concurrent customer programmes, managing priorities, risks, and technical trade-offs.
• Establish standards for production stability, observability, incident management, root-cause analysis, and lasting reliability improvements.
• Hire, develop, and retain engineers and engineering leaders while partnering with Product, Services, Support, Infrastructure, customers, and senior leadership.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with significant senior leadership experience, preferably in a scaling SaaS technology company.
• Experience leading distributed engineering teams and developing Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders.
• Strong knowledge of large-scale SaaS systems, distributed systems, microservices, APIs, and event-driven architecture, including Kafka, AWS SQS, and RabbitMQ.
• Strong architectural knowledge of AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CloudFormation, CI/CD, GitOps, and cloud-native deployment practices.
• Experience overseeing reliability and incident response for mission-critical production systems, including SLIs, SLOs, observability, and war-room situations.
• Must be based in the Netherlands or a South East Asia location.

Nice to have

• Experience in CCaaS, CPaaS, UCaaS, messaging, voice, telephony, or communications platforms.
• Experience supporting regulated enterprise or public-sector customers.
