Senior Software Engineer, Payments Quality (QA Automation)

Location: United States or Canada. Hiring is currently limited to Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. Remote-first; employees living within 30 miles of an office location follow a hybrid schedule with some in-person time.

What you will do

• Define and implement quality strategies and automated end-to-end validation for payment acceptance systems.
• Design and run high-concurrency load, stress, latency, and performance tests for high-throughput payment pipelines.
• Build AI-assisted test creation workflows, synthetic test data generation, edge-case analysis, and high-performance emulators for card networks and partner systems.
• Develop telemetry-driven test environments using Prometheus and Grafana to identify issues and prevent incidents.
• Embed automated quality gates into CI/CD pipelines and create reusable testing paths for feature teams.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with development engineers, technical leads, and product management on quality practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience focused on quality engineering, test automation frameworks, and performance testing for distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with Java, Python, Go, or TypeScript, including REST API testing and microservices validation.
• Experience with JMeter, Locust, Gatling, or k6 for performance, stress, and load testing.
• Experience integrating automated quality gates into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or GitOps, Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, and AWS.
• Experience testing event-driven architectures with Kafka or SQS and validating relational or NoSQL databases under load.
• Strong ownership, proactive edge-case analysis, and the ability to solve complex quality challenges end to end.

Nice to have

• Experience with payment processing, tokenization, security products, 3DS, network tokens, account updaters, or payment gateway integrations.
• Experience with AI developer tools, LLM-generated test automation, or synthetic test data generation.
• Knowledge of PCI-DSS, SOC2, and cloud security constraints.
• Bachelor's degree and experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
