Staff Software Engineer (Data Engineering)

Location: Oakland, California, United States

Salary: $202,500–$274,000 annual base pay, plus potential cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable production-grade systems across data ingestion, processing, modeling, and serving.
• Build and maintain batch and streaming data pipelines, reusable datasets, data models, and processing frameworks.
• Contribute to data and service-layer components supporting experimentation, metric computation, and analysis at scale.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, validation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis to improve data quality and reliability.
• Improve system performance, scalability, cost efficiency, and developer experience.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Data Architects, Data Scientists, Product Analysts, Software Engineers, and Data Engineers to deliver end-to-end solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a related role.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala, with solid software engineering fundamentals.
• Expertise in SQL, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts.
• Experience building large-scale data pipelines and distributed systems with technologies such as Google Dataflow, BigQuery, Airflow/Composer, Spark, or Flink.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, agile methodologies, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management.
