Staff Software Engineer (Data Engineering)

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada; hybrid work may be available for candidates near the Chicago, Fort Worth, Burnaby, or Mississauga headquarters offices. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Salary: $126,090–$151,615 per year.

What you will do

• Define the technical vision, architecture, and technology standards for the enterprise data platform.
• Design and scale ETL/ELT pipelines using dbt, Python, SQL, AWS, and cloud data warehouses.
• Establish governed semantic views and consistent metrics across Power BI, Tableau, and Looker.
• Lead workflow orchestration, real-time streaming ingestion, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and observability initiatives.
• Drive data quality, governance, lineage, SLOs, incident response, and systemic resolution of complex data issues.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, support hiring, and align technical strategy with business and product stakeholders.

Requirements

• 10+ years of data engineering or software engineering experience, including 3+ years at a senior or staff level.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, with expert knowledge of Snowflake or BigQuery and deep experience with dbt.
• Experience with data modeling, Apache Airflow, Kafka, Snowpipe, event-driven architectures, and AWS services including S3, MWAA, and Glue.
• Experience with Terraform, CI/CD tools, Datadog or similar observability platforms, Git/GitHub, data governance, cataloging, and data quality frameworks.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Strong communication, collaboration, mentoring, and technical leadership skills are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java or Scala.
• Knowledge of HashiCorp Vault or other secrets management solutions.
• Familiarity with Horizon Catalog, Select Star, Power BI, Tableau, or Looker/LookML.
• Experience leading technical RFCs and architecture decision records.
