TL;DR
Closures Engineering Lead (Automotive): Owning the technical roadmap and delivery of door and closure systems for autonomous transit vehicles with an accent on complex mechanisms, electromechanical integration, and production readiness. Focus on translating vehicle requirements into system architectures, leading prototype builds and validation, and solving manufacturing, reliability, quality, and supplier-integration challenges.

Develops carbon-neutral autonomous transit systems using standardized vehicles on dedicated roadways.

What you will do

  • Own the technical roadmap and product delivery for vehicle door and closure systems, including mechanisms, latches, seals, actuators, sensors, electrical and electronic systems, and related software.
  • Translate vehicle-level requirements into closure-system architectures, design decisions, verification plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead the design and integration of complex mechanisms, including kinematics, actuator selection, hinge and latch integration, packaging, tolerances, and interfaces.
  • Coordinate cross-functional engineering across mechanical, electrical, software, systems, safety, validation, manufacturing, quality, industrial design, and operations.
  • Lead prototype builds, vehicle integration, durability testing, root-cause investigations, design iterations, and production-readiness activities.
  • Coordinate technical work with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier partners across Japan, the United States, and Europe.

Requirements

  • Significant experience developing automotive closures or complex mechanical and electromechanical systems through multiple product-development stages; sliding-door experience is valuable.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanism design, kinematics, actuators, latches, hinges, seals, tolerance management, design verification, and reliability.
  • Experience taking a closure system or complex mechanism from concept through sourcing, validation, production, and launch.
  • Working knowledge of design for manufacturability, design for assembly, GD&T, tolerance analysis, FMEA, and quality-planning methods.
  • Experience with CATIA, 3DX, or comparable CAD and PLM tools, with at least DMU-level proficiency.
  • Professional fluency in English and willingness to travel internationally, including extended collaboration or assignments in Japan and the United States.

  • Japanese language skills.
  • Experience using CAE tools for product development.
