Principal Platform Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; hybrid, with at least 3 days per week in the office

Salary: $195,000–$220,000 annually, plus annual bonus and company equity.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain classical compute infrastructure for quantum control systems.
• Partner with software engineers, control systems engineers, and physicists to deliver infrastructure for complex research workloads.
• Own infrastructure-as-code, deployment automation, and observability across on-premises laboratories and cloud platforms.
• Establish security, access control, and compliance standards, including NIST 800-53 and SOC 2.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
• Evaluate infrastructure tools and make build-versus-buy decisions based on velocity and operational overhead.

Requirements

• BS or advanced degree in Computer Science.
• 7+ years of post-degree experience as an infrastructure, platform, or systems engineer.
• Experience completing an infrastructure build-out or major platform migration.
• Current experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Pulumi.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes.
• Experience managing hybrid environments with on-premises hardware and AWS, GCP, or Azure.
