Staff / Principal Software Engineer (In-Vehicle AI Experiences)

Location: Hybrid in Mountain View, California; in-office attendance required at least three times per week

Salary: $189,300–$290,000 per year, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Define and build driver-facing capabilities from concept through production.
• Own features end to end, from driver requests and conversational behavior through on-device fulfillment, vehicle integration, UI, validation, and iteration.
• Write production Kotlin and contribute to Python-based agent definitions, NLU, LLM orchestration, APIs, and connected services.
• Prototype and evaluate experiences in realistic vehicle environments, then turn successful concepts into reliable products.
• Partner with Product, UX, conversation design, vehicle software, systems, platform, safety, privacy, and validation teams.
• Establish engineering patterns, diagnose cross-boundary issues, improve delivery workflows, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 8 years of experience for Staff level or 10 years for Principal level building and shipping production software.
• Strong hands-on development skills in Kotlin, Java, C++, Python, or a comparable language, with the ability to work primarily in Kotlin and Android.
• Experience independently delivering complex, user-facing features across multiple components or systems.
• Strong system design, debugging, testing, operational-quality judgment, and cross-functional technical leadership.
• Experience using modern AI-assisted software-development workflows effectively and responsibly.

Nice to have

• Android or Android Automotive OS, Jetpack Compose, Android services, IPC, or system applications.
• Automotive, infotainment, embedded, robotics, consumer-device, or resource-constrained software experience.
• Vehicle integration involving VHAL, vehicle services, signals, APIs, or automotive networks.
• Voice assistants, conversational products, ASR, NLU, TTS, dialogue systems, or conversation evaluation.
• LLM-enabled product development, cloud-connected services, distributed systems, automated testing, observability, performance analysis, or CI/CD.
