Director of Data Management and Operations (Defense)

Location: Full-time on-site at the El Segundo, California headquarters; regular travel to test sites and other company locations, with support for critical field operations outside standard business hours when needed.

Salary: $233,000–$292,000 base compensation per year, excluding bonuses, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Establish company-wide governance for data definitions, ownership, quality, lineage, retention, and metric changes.
• Create authoritative analytical datasets and shared definitions for Engineering, AI, Test, and business teams.
• Partner with Foundry engineering on ingestion, ETL, modeling, transformation, validation, monitoring, and scalable data architecture.
• Own permissions management and implement least-privilege access, auditability, retention, and handling controls for sensitive data.
• Plan and coordinate test-event data capture, including sensor data, metadata, truth data, labels, logging, storage, and validation.
• Build and manage data governance and field data operations teams, operating procedures, service levels, and reliability metrics.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, data governance, analytics infrastructure, test data, or similarly complex technical environments, including significant team leadership.
• 3+ years of management experience, ideally including teams with non-exempt or contract employees.
• Production data pipeline ownership from source ingestion through transformation, quality assurance, publication, and consumption.
• Strong knowledge of ETL, data modeling, metadata, lineage, data quality, observability, and modern data engineering practices.
• Ability to lead cross-functional work across data engineering, radar and test teams, security, analytics, and senior leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

Nice to have

• Experience with Palantir Foundry or a comparable enterprise data platform; deep Foundry experience is strongly preferred.
• Radar or defense systems experience.
• Experience planning test events and coordinating operational logistics for collecting and transporting data.
• Experience designing permissions and access-control processes in security- and compliance-sensitive environments.
• Experience collecting data from physical systems, sensors, laboratories, manufacturing, or field testing.
