Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Fridley, Minnesota, United States; office-based role.

Salary: $178,400–$267,600 per year for U.S. locations excluding Puerto Rico and certain California locations.

What you will do

• Lead embedded software architecture, design, and technical decisions throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Define and evaluate hardware, software, security, communication, and RTOS approaches for product requirements.
• Collaborate with systems, electrical, quality, security, human factors, and project leadership teams.
• Provide technical direction and design oversight to globally distributed software teams and external partners.
• Investigate complex product issues through root-cause analysis, embedded debugging, and hardware/software integration.
• Advance Agile, DevOps, continuous integration, and automated testing practices while evaluating technical risks and emerging technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of relevant experience, master’s degree with 8 years, or PhD with 6 years.
• Extensive software and embedded software development experience.
• At least 3 years leading technical architecture or design for complex embedded systems.
• Experience with real-time RTOS software, including ThreadX-based designs, USB CDC/HID, ARM v8-M/M33, drivers, Bluetooth, and RF telemetry.
• Experience with electrical board bring-up and hardware/software integration using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, JTAG, and UART.
• Experience developing embedded software in regulated environments, including IEC 62304 and IEC 60601-1 compliance; sponsorship is offered for Principal-level roles and above.

Nice to have

• Experience with TLS 1.3, X.509 certificates, encryption, and secure embedded software updates.
• Experience planning and executing Agile-Scrum development and implementing DevOps or continuous integration environments.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without direct authority.
