Sr Principal Software Engineer (Java)

Location: New York, New York, United States of America; four days in the office

Salary: $255,000–$330,000 base salary annually, plus potential annual incentive compensation and long-term equity participation.

What you will do

• Build, test, debug, document, and maintain reliable high-performance software for the Cboe FX trading platform.
• Design complex distributed, multithreaded, real-time, and latency-sensitive trading systems.
• Translate business requirements into high-level technical solutions and procedural approaches.
• Set technical direction, lead architecture decisions, and influence the engineering roadmap.
• Mentor engineers and raise standards for code quality, testing, and engineering practices.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for operational issues, leading root-cause analysis and resolution of critical production incidents.

Requirements

• Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience writing highly performant, well-tested Java code, including recent hands-on experience in real-time trading environments.
• Experience building and maintaining multithreaded, distributed, real-time, and fail-safe systems.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and application performance optimization.
• Experience leading technical design and architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, communicating with stakeholders, and working cross-functionally.

Nice to have

• Experience with Linux, scripting, network debugging and programming, PostgreSQL or another RDBMS, R, Git, and 24x7 applications.
• Knowledge of order handling, FIX protocols, market data processing and distribution, and the finance industry.
• Experience in a small company.
