Senior Staff Software Engineer (Kotlin)

Location: New York, NY; hybrid schedule with 3 days a week in the office

Salary: $240,000–$249,500 per year in New York

What you will do

• Design and implement core backend services for ordering, planning, production, inventory, and fulfillment.
• Own cross-system architecture and lead development across multiple technical areas.
• Define event models, service boundaries, and data contracts used by other teams.
• Build scalable integrations with inventory, warehouse, and third-party supplier systems.
• Establish robust error-handling and system-resilience practices.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers, lead design reviews, and drive systemic improvements through postmortems.

Requirements

• 9+ years of backend software engineering experience, including staff-level scope or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong system design skills and experience architecting, shipping, and operating production services.
• Deep proficiency in at least one JVM language; Kotlin is used primarily.
• Experience owning a technical domain end to end, from data modeling through production operations.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, technical leadership, and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with supply chain, logistics, warehouse management, inventory, production planning, scheduling, or demand forecasting systems.
• Event sourcing and CQRS, including event schema design, replay, and projection rebuilds.
• Strong Kotlin and JVM ecosystem expertise.
• gRPC service implementation experience.
• Experience working with large-scale operational datasets.
