Staff, Software Engineer (Node.js)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite work at the Crossman Service Building

Annual salary: $143,000–$286,000, plus performance-based bonuses and potential stock compensation.

What you will do

• Design and build enterprise-scale Digital Financial Services platforms.
• Drive architecture and system design for GraphQL APIs, Node.js and Rust services, and distributed platforms.
• Build event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka and define REST and GraphQL API contracts.
• Develop and maintain React and TypeScript front-end applications.
• Optimize systems for performance, reliability, scalability, observability, and high availability.
• Set technical standards, lead large-scale projects, influence engineering direction, and mentor senior and mid-level engineers.

Requirements

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience; minimum qualifications include a relevant bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience or 6 years of relevant experience.
• Strong backend development expertise with Node.js, plus experience with Rust and TypeScript.
• Experience designing and scaling production GraphQL services, including Apollo Federation, and working with RESTful APIs.
• Experience building distributed, microservices-based systems and event-streaming solutions with Apache Kafka.
• Solid knowledge of system design, concurrency, data modeling, SQL, and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with debugging, defect management, performance troubleshooting, CI/CD, observability, and incident response.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant computer science or software engineering field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
