Manufacturing Engineer – Flex Fab (Automotive)

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; onsite full-time. Periodic travel to GM facilities, suppliers, and manufacturing partners is required at less than 25%. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

• Lead manufacturing execution for flexible-fabrication metal parts and assemblies from manufacturability review through prototype builds, validation, production-intent transition, and handoff to Pontiac Metal Center.
• Develop and optimize laser-cutting, sheet-metal forming, bending, joining, tooling, and fixture processes.
• Coordinate material procurement, dimensional verification, shipping, engineering changes, and manufacturing deliverables with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
• Resolve non-routine product, equipment, and quality issues using structured problem-solving and engineering judgment.
• Lead continuous-improvement initiatives involving process standardization, digital workflows, automation, and operational efficiency.
• Mentor less-experienced engineers and support technical demonstrations and lab tours.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least two years of experience in manufacturing engineering, advanced manufacturing, automation, launch execution, or prototype-to-production engineering.
• Direct experience working with manufacturing operations, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Strong technical problem-solving, project management, analytical, communication, and independent-work skills.
• Ability to work regularly in manufacturing and laboratory environments and travel periodically.
• Must be able to work onsite in Warren, Michigan, and legally operate a motor vehicle regularly.

Nice to have

• Automotive manufacturing, Body-in-White, sheet-metal fabrication, metal-center operations, or low-volume production experience.
• Hands-on experience with laser cutting, press-brake forming, automated bending, tube processing, welding, fastening, or fabrication tooling.
• Knowledge of DFM, GD&T, PFMEA, Control Plans, dimensional validation, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, DFSS, or Red X.
• Experience with Teamcenter, CAD/CAM systems, TruTops Boost, TruBend, digital workflows, standardized work documentation, data dashboards, or manufacturing execution tools.
