Software Engineer II, Android

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; hybrid with in-office collaboration three times per week

What you will do

• Design and implement consumer-facing recommendation features in the Tinder Android app.
• Connect recommendation logic, REST APIs, experiments, analytics, and quality validation into polished mobile experiences.
• Own well-scoped features from planning and implementation through testing, experiment launch, and validation.
• Collaborate with Android and backend engineers, Product, Design, Data Science, Analytics, QA, ML, Infrastructure, and partner teams.
• Write maintainable Kotlin code and improve app health, performance, reliability, modular architecture, shared libraries, and engineering practices.
• Investigate bugs, ANRs, performance regressions, and quality issues, adding tests or monitoring where appropriate.

Requirements

• At least approximately 2 years of professional experience building and shipping production consumer-facing applications with native Android technologies.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, Jetpack Compose, Android Views, Android Studio, Gradle, and the Android SDK.
• Experience consuming REST APIs and integrating mobile features with backend services.
• Familiarity with MVVM and separation of UI, business logic, and data access.
• Experience with Git, pull requests, code reviews, and unit or UI testing using tools such as JUnit, Mockito, Espresso, or Compose UI testing.
• Clear communication, collaborative problem-solving, ownership of deliverables, and the ability to identify risks and follow work through launch validation.

Nice to have

• Java or RxJava experience in production Android codebases and experience modernizing code toward Kotlin and Coroutines.
• Familiarity with modular architecture, dependency injection, repository and use-case patterns, Dagger or Hilt, Retrofit, OkHttp, and Moshi.
• Experience with static analysis, CI/CD, feature flags, experimentation, analytics, design systems, or mobile observability.
• Experience with recommendation, discovery, personalization, social, messaging, marketplace, or other large-scale consumer experiences.
• Experience with card-stack, gesture-heavy, animation-rich, performance-sensitive interfaces or AI-assisted development tools.
