Defined Benefit - Actuarial Services Manager

Location: Hove, United Kingdom; hybrid working between home and the office.

What you will do

• Translate defined benefit pension scheme rules into detailed system and calculation specifications.
• Support the development, testing, and release of changes to integrated calculation systems, applications, and supporting services.
• Explain calculation logic and expected system behaviours to developers and technical partners.
• Review system outputs and testing results to ensure accurate and fit-for-purpose calculations.
• Apply actuarial judgement to complex pension, systems, and testing queries.
• Collaborate with actuarial, technology, client services, operational, and Group IT stakeholders while improving controls, documentation, processes, and customer outcomes.

Requirements

• Qualified actuary or strong actuarial systems and development experience.
• Strong knowledge of defined benefit pensions, scheme benefits, and calculation rules.
• Experience converting pension scheme requirements into clear technical or calculation specifications.
• Comfort working with integrated systems, including calculation engines, databases, web applications, and connected services.
• Strong analytical judgement, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and autonomy.
• Understanding of testing, change delivery, Agile, Lean, or business analysis principles.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Java, SQL, or similar programming languages.
• Hands-on development experience is not required.
