Benefit Specialist Trainee (Insurance)

Location: On-site at the Chattanooga, Tennessee home office

Salary: Minimum starting rate of $25.97 per hour; base salary range of $40,000–$75,600 per year.

What you will do

• Learn to manage assigned caseloads of complex insurance claims with support from a formal mentor during the first 12 months.
• Analyze policy contracts, provisions, exclusions, riders, waivers, and regulatory requirements to determine eligibility and liability.
• Investigate claim information, use financial, medical, vocational, and return-to-work resources, and develop appropriate claim strategies.
• Make fair and objective claim decisions, provide timely payments, and respond to customer inquiries.
• Document claim determinations and recommendations clearly, including the supporting technical rationale.
• Use claims systems, coordinate with other product teams, and maintain service and quality standards.

Requirements

• College degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
• Experience or demonstrated ability in customer service, decision-making, problem-solving, and claim investigation.
• Ability to analyze and research complex contractual information and make fair decisions using sound judgment.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, communication, interpersonal, and listening skills.
• PC skills, multitasking ability, self-motivation, independence, and effective teamwork in a complex environment.
