Gamification Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Location: Remote within the United States; Atlanta, Georgia preferred. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $175,000–$185,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design and build performant, scalable, and reliable Ruby on Rails backend services.
• Own complex technical features from product requirements through deployment and monitoring.
• Diagnose bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and improve resilience under load.
• Drive architectural decisions and communicate technical trade-offs.
• Mentor Software Engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
• Participate in on-call rotations and collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and engineering teams.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience with substantial Ruby on Rails production experience.
• Expert Ruby on Rails and strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design and query optimization.
• Experience with RESTful API design, background jobs such as Sidekiq, and asynchronous workflows.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, deployment automation, and observability practices.
• Working knowledge of Go and experience operating backend systems at significant scale.
• Ability to work autonomously, communicate technical decisions, and handle ambiguous problems.

Nice to have

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools across coding, planning, scoping, and code review.
• Experience integrating AI tooling into engineering workflows.
