Staff Data Scientist, Personalization & Intelligence (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA, hybrid; office attendance required 2–3 days per week at 44 Montgomery Street. Candidates must be based in the San Francisco metro area or able to relocate independently within 90 days of starting. Occasional travel for team on-sites is required.

Salary: $239,000–$270,000 annual base salary, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own semantic and intelligence architecture for member, customer, and provider profile data.
• Design robust data contracts and guide platform-wide architectural decisions.
• Build AI-augmented workflows for code generation, incident analysis, personalized decisioning, agentic workflows, and real-time inference on AWS.
• Establish security, compliance, and correctness guardrails for LLM-based systems.
• Lead cross-team initiatives, clarify ambiguous problems, and shape strategy for the core intelligence and recommendation engine.
• Mentor data scientists and engineers, participate in on-call rotation, and improve production reliability, latency, scalability, and technical quality.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building production ML/AI systems, inference microservices, and real-time data pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake and OpenSearch for profile data and vector search.
• Experience with LLM orchestration using LangGraph and LangSmith.
• Staff-level technical leadership in ambiguous environments, architectural strategy, stakeholder alignment, and organization-wide improvements.
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers across the organization.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
