Scientist II - Upstream (Biopharmaceutical Processing)

Location: Shanghai, China; full-time role with up to 10% travel, including customer sites.

What you will do

• Plan, develop, and conduct upstream cell culture projects from laboratory-scale process development through production in 200L or larger bioreactors.
• Perform experiments with Wave, XDR, and iCellis bioreactors and culture media to support Cytiva’s cell culture business.
• Analyze experimental data, report results to customers, and prepare scientific publications and conference presentations.
• Deliver standardized Fast Trak technical training and address customer training needs through follow-up activities.
• Support sales activities and provide expert advice on marketing trends, bioprocess development, troubleshooting, and consulting.
• Collaborate with field application specialists and local commercial teams to support customers.

Requirements

• Master’s degree required; Ph.D. preferred.
• In-depth technical knowledge and hands-on experience in biopharmaceutical upstream processing, including fermentation, cell culture, and harvest.
• Strong scientific writing, oral presentation, planning, organization, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent English and Chinese in reading, speaking, and writing.
• Customer-focused, commercially aware, proactive, self-directed, and able to learn quickly.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale production of plasmids, viral vectors, or exosomes.
