Principal Data Scientist (AI/ML)

Location: Lowell, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $163,900–$235,550 base pay per year, plus potential performance-based bonus and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Define and execute the company-wide data science technical strategy across multiple product areas.
• Architect enterprise-scale data science systems and evaluate major infrastructure, platform, and vendor investments.
• Lead the strategy for agent development, including enterprise governance for safety, reliability, compliance, and responsible AI.
• Identify business-critical opportunities for AI and ML, execute strategic initiatives, and influence executive-level decisions.
• Set the data science innovation agenda and guide adoption of emerging techniques, frameworks, and foundation models.
• Mentor senior individual contributors and managers while shaping hiring, career frameworks, and organizational learning programs.

Requirements

• PhD in a quantitative field with 8+ years of industry experience, or a master’s degree with 12+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or a related discipline.
• Recognized technical authority with experience setting company-wide data science strategy and delivering business-critical results.
• Experience designing and governing enterprise-scale systems, including MLOps, model governance, data quality, responsible AI, and compliance.
• Strong command of ML frameworks, cloud platforms such as GCP and Agent Platform, BigQuery or equivalent, and the modern AI/ML toolchain.
• Hands-on experience building and delivering production ML and AI models across problem framing, feature engineering, development, evaluation, and monitoring.
• Experience mentoring staff-level individual contributors and engineering managers, with exceptional executive-level communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with enterprise-scale agentic AI systems, multi-agent architectures, and safety, reliability, and compliance frameworks.
• Experience advising on AI/ML infrastructure vendors, platform commitments, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Deep familiarity with the human capital management industry and workforce management, talent, and pay solutions.
• Advanced expertise in fairness, interpretability, privacy-preserving ML, model risk management, and regulatory compliance.
