Principal Product Manager (Payments)

Location: US Remote - California. Candidates must be able to work legally in the United States; employment eligibility is validated through e-Verify.

Salary: $190,000–$300,000 annually, with potential eligibility for bonuses, commissions, or other compensation.

What you will do

• Own the multi-year payments platform strategy, roadmap, investment priorities, and executive-level tradeoffs.
• Build a cross-product customer wallet supporting balances, activity views, top-ups, withdrawals, and split payments.
• Expand international payments through currencies, local payment methods, registration, tax reporting, and market-by-market compliance.
• Manage acquiring, alternative payment methods, payouts, settlement, funding, reconciliation, ledger infrastructure, and financial reporting.
• Lead multi-PSP routing, least-cost routing, failover, retries, declines, authorization-rate improvement, and transaction cost optimization.
• Partner with Risk and Fraud teams on screening, fraud reduction, chargebacks, disputes, and approval-rate-versus-loss decisions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of product management experience, including deep payments or consumer fintech experience.
• Experience owning production payment systems at meaningful scale, preferably in a high-growth marketplace, fintech, or platform company.
• Knowledge of card networks, interchange, gateway and PSP integrations such as Stripe, Adyen, or Braintree, tokenization, 3DS, SCA, local payment methods, payouts, and disputes.
• Experience launching cross-border payments and managing currencies, local methods, regulatory requirements, and tax reporting.
• Marketplace experience, strong judgment under ambiguity, data-driven decision-making, and accountability for outcomes.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to align executives and technical teams without direct authority.

Nice to have

• Experience building or materially improving ledger, settlement, and reconciliation systems.
• Experience partnering closely with Accounting during financial close.
