Lead Hardware Engineer (Controllers) (Avionics/Aerospace): Designing custom avionics controllers for the Terran R launch vehicle, covering engine control, fluid and tank pressurization, payload interfaces, and separation mechanisms with an accent on mixed-signal and analog circuit design. Focus on leading the controller lifecycle from board bring-up and design verification through qualification, flight production, integration, and vehicle operations.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States

Hiring range: $151,000–$227,000 USD annually

Company

hirify.global develops launch vehicles and the manufacturing systems required to deliver customer payloads to orbit.

What you will do

  • Lead a small team of electrical engineers designing custom avionics controllers for the Terran R launch vehicle.
  • Develop controllers for rocket engine command and control, fluid and tank pressurization, customer payload interfaces, and separation mechanisms.
  • Drive the full hardware lifecycle from initial design and board bring-up through design verification, qualification, flight production, integration, and vehicle operations.
  • Partner with propulsion, fluids, stage engineering, GNC, mechanical, thermal, electrical, and software teams to integrate controller solutions.
  • Lead root cause investigations and promote rigorous engineering practices across the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of electronics design experience for harsh-environment and mission-critical applications such as launch vehicles, spacecraft, aircraft, or robotics.
  • Strong experience with mixed-signal and analog circuit design, including sensor signal conditioning, instrumentation amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, and filter design.
  • Experience designing control electronics for solenoid valves, brushless DC motors, pyrotechnic firing circuits, and other high-reliability mechanisms.
  • Experience interfacing with pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, flow meters, and position sensors.
  • Experience with RCCA methods, engineering processes such as requirements capture, design reviews, design verification and FMEA, and mentoring small engineering teams.

Nice to have

  • Embedded software development and integration for real-time control systems.
  • Power electronics, motor drives, high-current switching, DC-DC converters, and protection circuitry.
  • CAN, RS-422/485, SPI, I2C, or Ethernet interfaces for distributed control systems.
  • Environmental testing, test fixture design, reliability and manufacturability practices, and qualification testing.
  • Safety-critical design standards such as DO-254, MIL-STD-1553, and IPC-A-610.

Culture & Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Generous paid time off and sick leave.
  • Parental leave.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
  • Work requiring close collaboration across avionics, manufacturing, propulsion, GNC, fluids, and stage engineering.
