Laboratory Supervisor (Geotechnical)

Location: Wallingford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom — on-site. Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, with occasional support for offshore or field-based investigations in the UK and internationally.

What you will do

• Lead the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the geotechnical laboratory.
• Help establish and grow the rock testing capability, including processes, resources, and best practices.
• Supervise, coach, and support laboratory technicians.
• Perform and oversee testing of soil, rock, and aggregate samples according to industry standards, client specifications, and company procedures.
• Manage laboratory performance, resource planning, scheduling, data reporting, and quality assurance.
• Promote QHSE compliance through risk assessments, investigations, and safety best practices.

Requirements

• Experience in a laboratory or regulated technical environment, including laboratory operations and health and safety requirements.
• Experience supervising, coordinating, or mentoring technical, operational, or laboratory team members.
• Strong organisational, communication, stakeholder management, and workload-prioritisation skills.
• Ability to record, analyse, and report technical data using Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel.
• Relevant technical qualification or equivalent practical experience.
• Educational background in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, geology, or a related discipline is advantageous.

Nice to have

• Experience with geotechnical soil and rock testing.
• Knowledge of laboratory quality systems, accreditation requirements, or laboratory information management systems.
• Willingness to support occasional offshore or field-based investigations in the UK and internationally.
