Research Assistant (AI)

Location: Onsite at the TTI RELLIS campus in Bryan, Texas; no hybrid remote option is available. The role includes routine fieldwork travel, work outside normal business hours, weekends, nights, and extreme weather conditions.

What you will do

• Support the design, planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution of laboratory and field research projects.
• Perform fieldwork travel, data collection, site monitoring, non-destructive pavement testing, and traffic data analysis.
• Install, configure, monitor, and remove field equipment and sensors.
• Develop code, machine learning algorithms, macros, and software for data processing, analysis, and quality control.
• Conduct data analysis, technical reviews, report writing, documentation, computational modeling, finite element analysis, and numerical simulations.
• Maintain research equipment and student laboratories while supporting students and junior technical staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
• Knowledge of Python, Abaqus, MATLAB, VBA, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to perform traffic data analysis, quality checks, and finite element modeling.
• Ability to routinely travel for fieldwork and work beyond normal business hours, including weekends and nights.
• Ability to work in hot, cold, and extreme weather conditions and lift or exert heavy force as needed.
• Valid USA Class C driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Nice to have

• Six months to one year of related experience.
• Knowledge of piezoelectric and Weigh-In-Motion sensors.
• Electrical engineering and electronics knowledge.
• Programming and software development experience with machine learning and AI algorithms.
