TL;DR
Spacecraft Mission Software Engineer II (Python): Building and operating high-reliability ground-segment services, mission-control interfaces, simulation tools, and deployment infrastructure for spacecraft operations with an accent on telemetry, commanding, real-time data systems, and safety-critical software. Focus on designing deterministic services, automating flight-software testing, implementing CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code, and deploying across air-gapped mission environments.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Candidates must be lawfully authorized to work in the U.S. and qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR requirements.

Salary: $144,020–$184,026 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain high-reliability services for telemetry ingestion, scaling, distribution, and spacecraft commanding.
  • Build operator-grade mission-control interfaces and dashboards for integration, testing, and on-orbit operations.
  • Create flight-software simulations, device emulators, and scenario-based automated tests.
  • Design and productionize mission-platform tooling, including CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, service templates, infrastructure-as-code, observability, and hardware-in-the-loop frameworks.
  • Implement reliable deployment, rollout, rollback, and limited-connectivity strategies for lab, test-range, and mission-network environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
  • 3+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
  • Strong Python development skills and understanding of core language concepts.
  • Strong systems fundamentals, including concurrency, networking, performance, and reliability.
  • Experience with real-time data acquisition and distribution services, low-latency messaging, time-series databases, relational databases, CI/CD, dependency and build systems, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Experience with logging, metrics, tracing, Docker, Kubernetes, release management, phased rollouts, and operational readiness for controlled networks.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in C++, Ansible, and/or NiceGUI.
  • Experience with data acquisition, closed-loop control, flight-software teams, simulation and testing tools, or safety-critical certification workflows.
  • Knowledge of ground-systems standards, mission-network security, and mission-grade interfaces with structured command workflows, alarming, and situational awareness.
