Director, Utility Development (AI Data Centers)

Location: United States, focused on Eastern U.S. markets

Salary: $160,000–$300,000 USD base salary per year, with potential bonus, equity, and/or commission.

What you will do

• Develop and own utility strategies for East region data center projects.
• Evaluate sites based on grid capacity, reliability, and regulatory constraints, and build utility capacity plans from load forecasts.
• Lead technical and commercial engagements with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, transmission owners, water and sewer authorities, and fiber providers.
• Negotiate interconnection, service, tariff, water, sewer, and fiber agreements.
• Secure diverse and redundant fiber routes, coordinating easements, conduit agreements, construction timelines, and provider risks.
• Own utility delivery from due diligence through energization and lead an Analyst supporting East region development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• 8–12+ years of experience in utility development or grid-connected infrastructure, including large-scale data centers or industrial loads.
• Direct experience with utilities and ISOs/RTOs in Eastern U.S. markets.
• Experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects from concept through energization.
• Experience securing fiber connectivity and negotiating with outside fiber providers for large facilities or campuses.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience with high-density AI/GPU or HPC data centers.
• Familiarity with water systems, fiber route engineering, IRUs, and dark/lit fiber commercial structures.
