Automation Engineer (DCS) (Life Sciences)

Location: On-site in Muskegon, Michigan, United States; 5–10% overnight domestic and international travel, including travel to Uppsala, Sweden.

What you will do

• Lead automation projects and teams through concept planning, configuration, development, and start-up.
• Deploy and support distributed control systems for manufacturing and building management.
• Monitor system performance and provide technical support for DCS and PLC systems.
• Train operators and engineers and coordinate with vendors and the Uppsala automation team.
• Develop technical documentation, execute validation plans, and improve control and operating systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical engineering, or a similar discipline, or 15+ years of relevant experience.
• At least five years of direct experience managing or maintaining process automation systems such as Emerson DeltaV, ABB 800xA, or Rockwell PlantPAx.
• Experience executing automation projects in accordance with the ISA S88 batch standard and Good Automated Manufacturing Practices.
• Strong communication and coordination skills across operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, and management in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
• Ability to solve technical issues during commissioning and operations while delivering safe, robust systems.

Nice to have

• Programming or configuration experience with Emerson DeltaV, ABB 800xA, or Rockwell PlantPAx.
• Life sciences or pharmaceutical industry experience, including documentation, change management, validation, and batch processes.
• Experience with virtualized control systems and safety instrumented systems lifecycle management.
• Knowledge of ISA 95 and basic control-system principles.
