Software Engineer, Agents (AI)

Location: United States — Remote; fully remote work or a hybrid schedule from the nearest Moonbase is available.

What you will do

• Own significant areas of PayBox from problem definition and technical approach through production delivery and iteration.
• Build payment and peer-to-peer transfer experiences designed for AI interfaces.
• Develop integrations across AI platforms, applications, and the PayBox ecosystem.
• Build infrastructure and product experiences for onboarding new applications and integrations.
• Partner with Product to turn ambitious ideas into simple, usable experiences.
• Improve onboarding and UX by identifying and removing user friction.

Requirements

• Exceptional technical reasoning, strong engineering fundamentals, and the ability to solve unfamiliar and ambiguous problems.
• High agency, independent thinking, and comfort taking responsibility without perfectly defined requirements.
• Experience building and shipping meaningful products, projects, or systems end to end.
• Strong systems thinking, architectural judgment, and an understanding of technical trade-offs.
• Product judgment, thoroughness, and a strong focus on the quality of shipped work.
• Ability to use AI tools extensively while maintaining independent technical reasoning and accountability.

Nice to have

• Experience as a founding or early engineer at a high-growth startup.
• Experience founding and building a company or product and taking it from idea through launch and iteration.
• Experience working in small, highly autonomous engineering teams.
• Experience building AI-native products, agents, developer tooling, payments, fintech, crypto, DeFi, MCP, or other emerging agent protocols.
