TL;DR
Scientist I or II (In Vivo Drug Discovery): Designing, executing, and evaluating in vivo studies for target identification, target validation, and drug discovery programs with an accent on mouse models, efficacy studies, and PK/PD analysis. Focus on selecting and characterizing animal models, coordinating internal and CRO studies, and improving workflows for complex preclinical research.

Location: Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge, UK, with purposeful in-person collaboration

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and evaluate in vivo studies conducted internally and through CROs.
  • Plan and execute laboratory studies involving mouse model characterization, behavioral and image-based analysis, efficacy testing, and small-scale PK/PD studies.
  • Prepare study reports, summaries, regulatory documents, and electronic database entries.
  • Develop in vivo project plans with program leads and senior leadership.
  • Coordinate with vivarium staff, CROs, academic partners, and internal stakeholders to deliver study work packages.
  • Lead workflow improvements, technology adoption, knowledge capture, and scientific coaching within the matrix-based team.

Requirements

  • 4–5 years of relevant experience working with in vivo models and both internal and external partners.
  • Current UK Home Office Licence or a dormant UK licence that can be reactivated is required.
  • Hands-on experience with animal models, colony management, and generation of experimental cohorts.
  • Experience planning and executing efficacy studies, including complex dosing routes such as IT, ICV, and ICM and repeat-dose cannulation in mice.
  • Experience with mouse model characterization, behavioral phenotyping, image-based analysis, tissue collection, and sample processing.
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills, attention to detail, and experience preparing reports and regulatory documentation.

Nice to have

  • Experience in neurodegenerative, neuroinflammatory, or cardiovascular disease research.
  • Understanding of genome engineering and transgenic technologies for animal model generation.
  • Expertise in CNS tissue collection and histology preparation, including fixation and embedding.
