Principal Product Designer, Design Systems & AI

Location: United States; fully remote

Salary: $146,500–$216,000 annually, plus annual bonus potential and equity participation.

What you will do

• Own the design system as a product, including tokens, component libraries, documentation, code components, architecture, and adoption.
• Lead the migration of the component architecture in partnership with engineering.
• Establish governance for versioning, contributions, releases, design-to-engineering handoffs, and shared definitions of done.
• Create reusable patterns, guidelines, tools, and workflows for agentic AI product experiences and bring them into production.
• Work hands-on in design and code through prototyping, implementation reviews, and technical architecture discussions.
• Improve adoption, handoff efficiency, reuse, governance maturity, and product quality through critique, mentorship, and measurement.

Requirements

• 12+ years of professional product design experience, including several years owning and scaling design systems.
• Hands-on expertise with design tokens, component architecture, libraries, and governance.
• Engineering fluency with TypeScript and React codebases, Storybook, and technical architecture discussions.
• Experience leading a production design-system migration or re-platforming initiative.
• Experience designing AI-driven or agentic product experiences and using AI-assisted tools such as Claude Code to review, test, and validate generated output.
• Strong influence, communication, collaboration, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills in complex or ambiguous environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with developer tools, data science, technical audiences, open-source design systems, Figma plugins, or AI-assisted design workflows.
• Experience supporting multi-product or converging platforms with a shared design system.
