General Manager of SEO / GEO (AI)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area; requires 5 days per week in office

What you will do

• Own SEO and GEO strategy, execution, and results across organic search and AI-driven citation traffic.
• Improve the discoverability of 64 million full-text research papers through keyword architecture, crawl health, indexing, ranking, and citation optimization.
• Define measurable baselines and goals, report quantitative outcomes, and run rigorous experiments using AI tooling and technical ingenuity.
• Lead and develop a focused team of 3–4 engineers with design support.
• Set strategic direction, remove obstacles, author PRDs, and lead technical audits and planning sessions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on SEO experience, ideally in highly competitive industries.
• Deep technical understanding of SEO architecture and crawling, indexing, and ranking systems.
• Working knowledge of GEO architecture, including how language models generate queries, evaluate SERP results, and select sources to cite.
• Ability to direct projects with urgency, author specifications, structure experiments, and maintain high standards.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative communication skills, with the ability to distinguish meaningful metrics from vanity statistics.
• Experience operating as a player-coach across technical SEO analysis and strategic leadership.
