Hardware Reverse Engineer (Embedded Security): Reverse engineering complex embedded systems and hardware to identify vulnerabilities, extract firmware, analyze protocols, and develop hardware-in-the-loop test environments with an accent on embedded security, FPGA platforms, and AI-assisted hardware red-teaming. Focus on reconstructing schematics, analyzing high-speed signals, exploiting communication channels, and researching hardened systems under active U.S. Top Secret clearance requirements.

What you will do

  • Reverse engineer complex embedded systems, processor modules, digital boards, firmware, binaries, and system architectures.
  • Identify communication channels, firmware memory, functional behaviors, and vulnerabilities in hardened systems.
  • Reconstruct schematics from physical boards and develop hardware-in-the-loop environments to test and emulate device behavior.
  • Conduct protocol and signal analysis using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, JTAG, and UART.
  • Rapidly prototype technologies for hardware analysis, exploitation, and vulnerability research.
  • Use agentic AI systems and automated workflows to accelerate PCB analysis, component identification, and hardware red-teaming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing for embedded systems, high-speed data devices, or system-on-modules.
  • Experience analyzing and reverse engineering x86, ARM, or AVR binaries and developing or integrating embedded bootloaders.
  • Programming experience in C, C++, and Python, plus development for AMD/Xilinx, Altera, or Microsemi FPGA devices.
  • Experience creating wiring diagrams and schematics and debugging embedded systems with JTAG, UART, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance and ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
  • Custom PCB development with Altium and knowledge of RF, wired, and wireless protocols.
  • Experience with USB, SPI, I2C, 1-Wire, Ethernet, PCI-Express, 802.11, Bluetooth, or ZigBee.
  • IoT product hacking experience and exposure to AI-assisted hardware security tools.
  • Experience leading technical employees or engineering teams and working in small R&D teams.
