TL;DR
Embedded Linux Engineer (Real-Time Automation, Robotics): Developing and maintaining PREEMPT-RT Linux software for automated electromechanical and machine-control systems with an accent on deterministic operation, embedded interfaces, and industrial fieldbus integration. Focus on designing drivers and middleware, coordinating motion through EtherCAT, integrating machine vision and AI Edge inspection systems, and validating field-ready products.

Location: On-site in Austin, Texas, requiring at least four days per week at the hirify.global Center. Travel may include up to 15% domestic or international travel. Relocation to the United States may be authorized.

Expected annual compensation: $124,127–$151,710, including base pay and eligible variable incentive pay.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain real-time PREEMPT-RT Linux software for automated electromechanical systems.
  • Design interfaces between embedded firmware, DSPs, sensors, and higher-level application software.
  • Build system services, device drivers, and middleware for deterministic machine-control operation.
  • Implement coordinated motion control over EtherCAT and integrate motors, encoders, sensors, and actuators.
  • Integrate control platforms with machine-vision, AI Edge inspection, and operator HMI subsystems.
  • Support architecture, prototyping, integration, testing, deployment, commercialization, and collaboration with hardware, firmware, systems, suppliers, and external partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of C/C++ software development for embedded systems and real-time operating systems such as PREEMPT-RT Linux.
  • At least three years of experience with multithreaded and concurrent software, inter-process communication, and complex hardware/software debugging.
  • At least three years of experience with source control and modern software development tools.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employment visa sponsorship.
  • Must work on-site in Austin at least four days per week.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with DSP integration, signal processing, machine control, device drivers, or middleware.
  • Python scripting and automation experience.
  • Knowledge of EtherCAT, CANopen, Modbus, TCP/IP, motion or servo control, torque motors, and encoder feedback.
  • Experience integrating machine-vision cameras, image pipelines, and OpenCV.
