R&D Technician (Composite Building Materials)

What you will do

• Support research and development activities for composite building materials within the Deckorators business.
• Conduct standard quality-control and specialized non-destructive testing on product properties.
• Use laboratory, pilot-scale, and production-scale extrusion equipment to create and process prototypes.
• Analyze formulations, processes, products, and equipment to support process optimization and product development.
• Plan and execute trial-line runs, field evaluations, customer-requirement analyses, and code qualification trials.
• Present objective test results and conclusions while troubleshooting equipment and recommending improvements to instrumentation, procedures, and processes.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant experience, or an associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, applied sciences, or physical sciences.
• Working knowledge of polymer processing analysis, testing, and equipment.
• Ability to analyze and report data and troubleshoot testing equipment.
• Strong mechanical and analytical aptitude, ownership, accountability, and proactive communication.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage project priorities, and adapt to changing responsibilities.
• Availability for weekday daytime work with some flexibility in working hours.

Nice to have

• Experience with extrusion or testing in the extruded building products industry.
• Understanding of laboratory-scale extrusion processes and composite building products.
